Charmise L. Knox, Vice President

As Vice President of Friends with Abilities, I am wholeheartedly dedicated to empowering individuals and transforming lives through leadership, service, and a strong commitment to inclusivity. My path as an educator, mentor, small business owner, and advocate is grounded in a robust educational foundation, with a background in secondary education and a Master’s in Higher Education from Eastern Michigan University. At the University of Michigan, I focus on inspiring curiosity, building confidence and resilience, and equipping students and undergraduate researchers with the skills necessary for personal and academic success.

Beyond academia, I am passionate about fostering community change through sisterhood, leadership, and service. As an engaged member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Rho Sigma Alumnae Chapter in Detroit, Michigan, I live by our motto, "Greater Service, Greater Progress," by participating in civic forums to support at-risk school-aged children with educational resources. I also advocate for women to lead healthy lifestyles and work to minimize health risks. Additionally, I empower youth in my community with hands-on leadership activities that address the challenges they face today.

As a small business owner, I find great joy in crafting unique products. Whether I'm creating cards, baking sweet treats, or designing custom orders for special occasions, every step of the creative process brings the fulfillment of making my customers' gifts truly special.

Through advocacy, education, and direct services, I actively challenge societal stereotypes and strive to dismantle barriers, driven by the belief that a more inclusive world benefits everyone. I aim to create a society where equal opportunities for social participation are available to individuals of all abilities.
